Took me 6 months to realize my "emergency fund" was just a savings account with a different label
I spent half a year thinking I had 3 months of expenses saved up for emergencies. Then my water heater blew up last month and the $1200 repair wiped out half of it. That's when it hit me - my emergency fund was just sitting in my regular checking account getting spent on takeout and random Amazon buys. I finally moved it to a separate high-yield account I can't access from my phone. Took way too long to figure out that out of sight really is out of mind. Has anyone else made this dumb mistake or am I the only one?

Wait, are you saying I'm not supposed to just mentally label my regular savings as an emergency fund? I've been doing that for like three years.

Girl same here lmao. I had this whole "emergency fund" in my head but it was literally just my regular checking account that I dipped into for pizza and concert tickets all the time. Then my car needed a new transmission and I was like oh wait where did that money go. I finally just opened a separate Marcus account and labeled it DO NOT TOUCH in all caps and I swear it's the only thing that works. Out of sight really is out of mind for me too like I cannot trust myself with that money just sitting there all accessible. It's such a rookie mistake but honestly I feel like nobody talks about how easy it is to trick yourself like that.
