The $40 grocery bill that snapped me out of autopilot

I was standing in the checkout line at Kroger in Nashville two months ago and the total came to $43.27 for just a few bags. I realized I had been buying pre-cut vegetables and bagged salads this whole time, never thinking about the markup. That day I bought a whole head of lettuce for 89 cents instead of a $3.99 bag and actually timed myself chopping it - took 4 minutes. Has anyone else had that one receipt that made you change your whole shopping approach?

Four minutes of chopping lettuce doesn't sound life changing, does it.

Yeah the bagged salad markup is brutal once you notice it.
