My washing machine broke mid-cycle and flooded the laundry room last Tuesday
I was running a load of whites and the drain pump just gave out, leaving about 15 gallons of soapy water all over the floor. I spent two hours with a shop vac and towels trying to dry it out before calling a repair guy. Has anyone else had a sudden appliance fail like that and manage to fix it for less than 200 bucks?

...and that's exactly why I've started keeping a wet/dry vac in the garage at all times. Two hours with a shop vac sounds like a real workout though, hope you didn't throw your back out. My dryer once decided to eat a sock and started making this horrible grinding noise, took me forever to figure out the sock was stuck in the blower wheel. Ended up spending like 30 bucks on a new belt and some cleaning supplies, but that was after three hours of watching YouTube videos and cursing at it. Honestly if the repair guy can't fix it cheap, sometimes it's worth just buying a used one off Facebook Marketplace for a hundred bucks or so.

Ngl, I feel your pain I spent four hours wrestling with a washer pump last month and still ended up just buying a used one off Craigslist.
