My sister told me her 'no spend' weekend rule and it actually worked

We were talking on the phone and she said she just doesn't spend any money from Friday night to Monday morning, except for true emergencies. I thought it sounded impossible, but I tried it this past weekend and only spent $4 on a coffee because I ran out at home. It made me realize how much I normally spend on little things like snacks or apps without thinking. Has anyone else tried a rule like this to cut down on small, random spending?

I used to think you had to spend money to have a good weekend. I'd grab takeout because I was lazy, or buy a new game just because it was on sale. Trying a no spend rule showed me how much of that was just habit. Last Saturday I made coffee at home and actually read a book I already owned. It was kind of nice not checking my bank account on Sunday night.

It's a solid idea, makes you actually plan ahead. I just make sure I have gas in the car before Friday. The real test is when your friends want to go out.
