My grandpa told me to always keep a car maintenance fund...
Back in 2019 my grandpa sat me down and said I should put $50 a month into a separate account just for car repairs. I thought it was overkill since my Honda Civic was only 5 years old at that point. But I did it anyway. Fast forward to last spring and my transmission started slipping on the highway near Nashville. Repair bill came to $1,200 and I had $1,100 in that fund from three years of saving. I had to add a little extra but it covered most of it. If I hadn't listened to him I would have been stuck putting that on a credit card. Has anyone else had an older relative give them a specific dollar amount that actually worked out?

Wait, your grandpa gave you a specific dollar amount and it actually lined up almost perfectly with a real repair? That's wild, grandpas are psychic or something. Three years of saving and it covered nearly all of it, that's insane luck.

My buddy got a scratch off for $5 one time and won $200. He put it in his glove box and forgot about it. Found it a year later when his transmission blew and it paid for half the rebuild. Grandpas know things.

See it a little different honestly. That wasn't luck, that was just your grandpa being practical and passing that along to you. Most people would have cashed that ticket the same day and spent it on takeout or something dumb.
