Just hit $500 in my emergency fund after 4 months of saving
I started putting aside $25 from each paycheck into a separate account back in January. I honestly thought it would take a year to see any real progress. When I checked the balance this morning, it was at $502. It felt like a huge win, but my partner thinks we should have put that money toward our vacation fund instead. I'm torn between feeling secure and feeling like I'm missing out on fun. What's a better target for a first emergency fund, a few hundred bucks or a full month of bills?

Yeah, what troy_gibson43 said, a vacation won't fix a flat tire.

Wait, your partner thinks a vacation is more important than an emergency fund?

Honestly, this whole debate reminds me of my cousin's wedding last year. They spent so much on a fancy honeymoon trip right after the ceremony. Then their car's transmission blew out the week they got back. The whole thing turned into a huge fight because they had to put the repair on a credit card. Sometimes you just gotta have that cash set aside for life's little surprises, you know?
