Fridge died and I lost $200 worth of groceries last week

Came home from work Wednesday and smelled something off. Opened the fridge and everything was warm, milk was curdled, meat was bad. Called around and the repair guy said the compressor was shot and it would cost $450 to fix on a 12 year old fridge. Ended up finding a decent used one on Facebook Marketplace for $150 that same evening. Has anyone else had luck negotiating with appliance repair shops on older units?

Man that really sucks, $200 is a lot to lose just like that. I had a similar thing happen last year but it was my freezer that went out, lost a whole bunch of venison a buddy gave me. @the_nathan knows what I'm talking about, he's the one who helped me haul the old one out to the curb.

Oh man $200 is brutal! That's a rough way to come home from work.
