The $40 sleeping bag liner that saved my back in Lisbon

I booked a 6 euro hostel bed in Lisbon without checking reviews. The mattress was basically plywood with a sheet over it. Instead of eating the cost and moving, I bought a cheap silk liner at a camping store for 40 bucks. It added a layer of padding and kept the bedbugs off my skin. I slept fine for three nights and it packs smaller than a water bottle. Has anyone else used a liner as a mattress fix, or am I the only weirdo doing that?

Silk liner trick is legit, did the same thing in a hostel in Barcelona years ago but with a cotton one from Amazon. That mattress was so bad I woke up with dents in my arms, and the liner honestly made it bearable enough to sleep through the night. Plus it doubled as a blanket when their thin sheet smelled like someone else's perfume disaster. You're not weird, you're smart. Most backpackers don't realize the liner is basically a portable mattress topper if you double it up under you.
