Paid for a hostel bed, slept in a bus station anyway

Booked a supposedly cheap room in Prague for 18 euros, showed up and the 'hostel' was just a damp basement with three broken bunks. I ended up taking the night bus to Berlin instead, and that's when it hit me that my whole budget strategy was about the lowest number on a screen, not the actual value. Anyone else ever ditch a reservation they already paid for because the place was worse than just winging it?

the lowest number on a screen" hit me hard, i did the same thing in barcelona once. paid for a 12 euro bed, got there and the mattress was basically a yoga mat on concrete, so i just ate the cost and slept outside by the beach instead. sometimes you gotta pay more just to not feel like you're losing your mind.
