My cousin laughed at my packing cubes and now I get why

I was bragging to my cousin Sarah last month about my $12 Amazon packing cubes for a trip to Austin. She said "you paid extra weight for fabric bags" and I brushed it off. But then on day 3 I realized I was digging through cubes for one shirt while she just rolled everything into a single duffel. Her bag weighed 7 pounds lighter and she saved $25 on the budget airline fees. Now I'm rethinking all those cute little organizers I bought for my 10 day trip to Savannah last spring. Anyone else ditch the fancy stuff and go back to basic rolling?

Noticed the same thing with kitchen gadgets I never touch. We overcomplicate everything.

Yeah but a garlic press is actually useful if you hate chopping garlic by hand every single day. Most people just buy those weird avocado slicers and spiralizers that they use exactly once. The trick is figuring out what you'll actually reach for on a Tuesday night, not what looks cool in the drawer.

Hold on, I actually like my packing cubes for certain trips. I mean, maybe it's just me but I find them super helpful for separating dirty clothes from clean ones or keeping my toiletries from leaking all over everything. Sarah's method works great for a short trip to Austin, but for a 10 day trip to Savannah with different outfits for humid days and colder nights, I'd be digging through one big duffel way more than cubes. The weight savings is a good point though, so I guess it depends on the airline and how strict they are.
