Just had a chat with a hostel owner in Barcelona that got me thinking
I was staying at this hostel in Barcelona last month and got talking to the owner over breakfast. He said people spend way too much on food when traveling because they eat out three times a day without thinking. He told me his guests save about $20 a day just by hitting the local market for bread, cheese, and fruit instead of grabbing cafe food. But then he also said missing local cuisine is like missing half the trip. So now I'm stuck between budgeting hard on food or splurging for the real experience. What do you guys do when you travel, eat cheap or go all in on local spots?

This whole thing reminds me of that weird balance we all deal with in daily life, like how spending more on good shoes saves your feet later but cheap ones hurt now. Travel food is the same trap, you either pay now or miss out and regret it later.

Man, is it really that deep? You're talking about maybe $20 bucks a day difference, not exactly life or death money. If you're that worried about budgets just grab a cheap breakfast at the market and go for the good stuff at dinner.
