I was dead wrong about hostel kitchens and now I save $15 a day on food

For like 3 years I refused to stay at hostels that had kitchens. Figured it was gross, dirty, and I wouldnt want to cook on random pans. Then my budget got tight on a trip to Portland last month and I booked one with a kitchen just to save. Turns out the kitchen was cleaner than my own apartment and I cooked pasta and eggs for 4 days straight. Saved around $60 total on eating out. Still not gonna use a random cutting board but the stove and fridge were totally fine. Anyone else change their mind about something they swore off?

Totally changed my mind" is right, I was the same way until I stayed at one in Denver and realized the "gross pans" I was scared of were just my own bad cooking skills all along lol. I still bring my own spatula everywhere because I'm weird like that, but the savings on food are legit. Now I'm a hostel kitchen convert who just pretends the mystery stains on the counter are from someone else's pasta sauce.
