I finally compared Airbnb vs hostels in Bangkok, hostel won big time

Last month I spent 10 days in Bangkok and split it 5 nights each way. The Airbnb cost $28 a night and had a pool but was 40 minutes from everything fun. The hostel in the Old Town was $9 a night, had free breakfast, and I met two people who ended up joining me for a day trip to Ayutthaya. I saved about $95 total by switching, which paid for my train tickets. Has anyone else found hostels actually beat private rentals in Southeast Asia once you factor in location?
