Hot take: "budget" hostels are actually a scam most of the time

I booked a $15 a night place in Barcelona last month thinking I was saving big. Turned out they charged $10 for a towel, $5 for locker rental, and the wifi barely worked so I had to buy a €20 sim card. By the time I added up all the hidden fees I could have just stayed at a proper hostel for $35 a night. Has anyone else run into this where the cheapest option ends up costing more?

Wait did they actually hit you with the towel fee before you checked in or was it a surprise when you got there? I swear some of these places bank on people not reading the fine print and just hoping youll pay up out of convenience. Curious too if the $15 was listed as the base price on Hostelworld or if you found it on some sketchy third party site.

Tbh @jordanr89 that's just how the game works, you gotta read the fine print like everyone else.
