Hit 50 hotel nights in a year without spending a dime on rooms

I travel a lot for work, but my company only covers about 30 nights a year. The rest is personal trips. I started using a mix of credit card points and hotel promos back in 2022. Last week I realized I had stayed 50 nights total and paid $0 out of pocket for the rooms. The trick was stacking sign up bonuses with those 'stay 2 nights get 1 free' deals that hotels run in slow seasons. I also never book through third party sites because the hotels themselves give better offers direct. Has anyone else hit a free night milestone like this, or found a chain that gives the best bang for your points?

50 nights is a lot of hotel stays though. I get the points thing but at some point you're still spending money on flights and food and all that other stuff.

Hang on, that's not quite right about the flights. The airline miles from hotel stays often cover the flight part pretty well too. Like I got a round trip to Denver last year just using points from a few Hyatt stays, nothing extra out of pocket except taxes. So yeah the food is on you, but the flights can totally be free if you're smart about which hotel chain you're sticking with.
