Got a tip from a hostel worker in Lisbon that saved me $50 a day

Last summer I was booking day trips in Lisbon and a guy named Pedro at the front desk told me to skip the tourist bus and just take the 737 bus to Belem. It was like $2 instead of $20 for the hop-on hop-off pass, and I saw the tower and monastery without any crowds. Anyone else find random locals giving way better advice than travel blogs?

You know what, that napkin thing made me laugh because I had almost the exact same experience in Barcelona last spring. A guy working at a tiny bakery near my hostel drew me a map on a paper towel to this hidden viewpoint that wasn't in any guidebook, and I ended up finding a whole neighborhood of amazing tapas places nobody talks about. The paper towel got all sweaty in my pocket but I still have it somewhere. It's wild how the random scribbles from locals end up being the best souvenirs.

Just take the 737 bus" - did he scribble the stop numbers on a napkin for you?
