Found a way to cut hostel costs by 40% using a library card in Lisbon

I booked a week in Lisbon by checking out free city guidebooks and local event flyers from the public library, which led me to a quiet guesthouse run by a retiree for 15 euros a night. Has anyone else used local resources like libraries to find deals that beat the usual booking sites?

Last time I tried this in Prague the library lady looked at me like I had three heads when I asked about cheap hostels. She did point me to a cork board full of room ads though, ended up in some old guy's attic for like 10 bucks a night.

Man, that's a solid find. It's funny how the best deals often come from stepping away from the big booking algorithms and just talking to a local person. In my experience, the most valuable travel hacks are usually the ones that involve a little bit of legwork and a willingness to ask a random librarian for help.
