Changed my mind about hostels after 47 nights in South America
Always thought hostels were just for 20-somethings, but spent 3 months hopping between them in Peru and Bolivia and saved over $1,200 compared to budget hotels. Anyone else find a travel budget rule they swore by that turned out to be wrong?

Man I was exactly the same way until last year. I always figured hostels were just for loud backpackers and people who didnt care about sleep. But then I did two weeks in Colombia and a friend convinced me to try one in Medellin. Ended up meeting a local chef who showed us this tiny market for fresh arepas that I never would have found on my own. Saved like 30 bucks a night compared to the cheap hotels I was looking at too. The private rooms in some hostels are surprisingly quiet and clean if you pick the right ones.

Ngl the private rooms in Medellin hostels are legit, I had the same experience in Bogota.
