Unpopular opinion: I thought using dried beans was a waste of time
I always grabbed canned beans because they were quick, but a friend in Portland showed me her cost breakdown. A bag of dried black beans for $1.50 makes the same amount as about four cans, which would cost over $4. I tried a big batch in my slow cooker and they tasted way better... plus I froze half for later. Has anyone else switched from canned to dried and found a good way to cut the soak time?

Honestly, the texture difference alone sold me. Canned beans can get so mushy, but you get way more control over the firmness when you cook them yourself. I just skip soaking and add an extra hour to the simmer time.
