Took a whole month of cooking dried beans to finally ditch canned
I started buying dried black beans at the dollar store back in February. First batch I soaked overnight and boiled for 2 hours. Tasted fine. But after 4 weeks of doing this weekly, I noticed the texture got way better and I was wasting less money. Canned beans were $1.29 a can here. Dried beans are $1.25 for a whole pound bag. That comes out to like 7 cans worth. Saved about $7.50 just this month. Anyone else notice a learning curve with dried beans?

Oh come on, you're really nickel and diming over seven bucks a month? That's like skipping one coffee run. And the whole soaking and boiling routine plus cleaning up all those pots, my time has to be worth something too. Canned beans you just open and heat, done.

Soak dry beans overnight with no heat, then dump the water and rinse them in the same bowl. Takes maybe two minutes of actual work and you don't have to scrub a pot until they're cooked. Canned beans are fine in a pinch, but the texture and flavor difference is real if you cook from scratch.
