TIL my weekly grocery bill hit $37.50 for a family of three
I've been tracking every penny for six months, trying to cut costs on meals. Last week, I added it all up and the total was just $37.50. That's for all our dinners and lunches. I did it by buying a whole chicken, using the bones for stock, and making a big pot of bean soup with cheap veggies like carrots and onions. On one side, I feel like a champ for saving so much. On the other, my kid is getting tired of bean soup and my partner misses having more variety. It makes me wonder if saving money means you have to give up on eating well. Has anyone else hit a super low number but then felt stuck with boring food?

Honestly, what's the point of saving money if your family is miserable at the dinner table? Tbh, eating the same cheap soup all week sounds like a fast track to burnout and fights. You're saving cash but spending your family's good will, and that's way harder to earn back. Ngl, a few extra dollars for some spices, a different cut of meat, or a block of cheese could turn that meal from a chore into something you all look forward to. Saving should give you peace of mind, not make mealtime a source of stress.

Man, my family would mutiny if I tried that soup trick for a week straight.
