That bulk rice I bought at the Asian market went rancid way faster than I thought

I picked up a 25 pound bag of brown rice from the place on 12th St back in late February because it was like $18 versus $30 at the regular grocery store. I was storing it in a sealed bin in the pantry but it started smelling soapy and stale by early May, and I had to toss maybe 15 pounds of it. Has anyone else had brown rice go bad on them that fast, or should I have gone with white rice for bulk buying?
