That $6 bag of dried beans changed my Tuesday meal planning
I grabbed a 2 pound bag of pinto beans at the Aldi in Columbus for $6 and soaked them overnight, then made a big pot with a ham bone from the freezer... it fed me and my crew for 3 lunches. The canned ones I usually buy cost about $1.50 each and we'd go through 4 cans easy, so this is way cheaper. Anyone else go back to dried beans after a rough grocery bill, or am I just late to the party?
Dried beans are honestly the only reason I still feel like I can cook dinner without my budget screaming at me. The first time I made a bag, I felt kind of dumb for not doing it sooner, but then I realized how much money I was wasting on those little cans. My family went through them so fast and it added up way quicker than I wanted to admit. Plus the texture is so much better, they get that creamy inside when you cook em low and slow. Took me a couple tries to get the soaking time right but now its just part of my routine. Youre not late, youre just smart about it now.
