Shoutout to dried beans, canned beans cost me $18 extra last month
I tracked my grocery spending for 4 weeks and canned chickpeas and black beans were eating up $22 a month while a $3 bag of dried ones made double the amount of food. The dried ones take a little planning the night before but the taste is way better and I stopped running to Kroger mid week for another can. Is there a soaking trick that actually cuts the cook time down or am I just stuck waiting 90 minutes every time?
Did you try soaking them overnight with a pinch of baking soda? That trick cut my cook time down to about 45 minutes and the beans come out way softer.
45 minutes still sounds like a long time to stand around waiting for beans. I've tried the baking soda thing before and yeah they get a little softer but it's not some magic trick that changes everything. Maybe I'm just not patient enough for the whole soak and simmer routine.
