Rant: my rice kept turning to mush so I tried the frozen bag trick and now I feel silly
For like two years I could not make rice to save my life. It came out sticky and clumpy every time, and I was wasting a whole bag every couple weeks, which at $4 a bag adds up when you're broke. Last month my neighbor Deb in Fort Wayne saw me scraping another burnt pot and said to just dump the dry rice straight in the freezer for 20 minutes before cooking. I figured she was messing with me, but I did it anyway on a Tuesday. Brought it out, cooked it the same way I always do, and the grains came out separate and fluffy for the first time ever. I've done it four times now and it works every single time, no fancy pot or anything. Deb will not let me forget she was right, and honestly she earned it. Has anyone else heard of this freezer thing or is my neighbor just some kind of rice wizard?
