My uncle swore dried beans beat canned and I called BS for 5 years
My uncle Ray kept telling me a pound of dried pinto beans for $1.79 makes the same amount as 4 cans at $1.29 each, and I figured he was just being cheap like always. Then my grocery bill hit $210 for 2 people in Phoenix and I finally tried it, soaked them overnight, and got 6 cups of beans for way less than $5 total. Am I the only one who ignored this advice for way too long because it sounded like too much work?
I mean, a buck seventy-nine versus five bucks is a real gap but six cups of beans is also just... a lot of beans for two people. We tried the dried bean thing for a bit and half the batch sat in the fridge until it went bad, so we probably broke even. Not saying your uncle's wrong, just that the math only works if you actually eat all of it.
