My slow cooker died halfway through a big batch of beans
I was making a huge pot of pinto beans to last the week, like I always do on Sunday. The thing just shut off after about two hours, right when I was out getting bread. Came back to a cold pot of hard beans. Had to finish them on the stove, which used way more gas. Anyone know a good brand for a cheap, basic slow cooker that won't quit on you?

Talk about bad timing, right when you left the house. At least you didn't come back to a pot of charcoal, I guess that's a small win. My old cooker did the same thing with a roast once, just gave up the ghost mid-simmer. Honestly, for a basic one that just works, you can't go wrong with the classic Crock-Pot brand you find at any big box store. They're pretty much the tanks of the slow cooker world.
