My friend called my grocery haul 'bougie' and it made me rethink everything

I was showing off my weekly shop to a buddy, all proud of the fancy cheese and pre-cut veggies, and he just laughed and said 'Dude, that's a bougie haul, not a budget one.' He pointed out I was spending like $12 on pre-shredded cabbage for coleslaw when a whole head is $2.50. It stung a bit, but he was right. I started buying whole veggies, dried beans instead of canned, and big bags of rice. My bill for two people went from about $130 a week down to $80, and I'm not even trying that hard. It's crazy how much you pay for convenience. Anyone else have a moment like that that totally flipped your shopping habits?

It's not just about the money saved, it's the time you get back. Learning basic prep skills makes you faster, so that convenience tax starts to look even worse. You end up with more cash and more control over your week.

Watched my buddy learn to change his own oil, now he gets an extra Saturday morning every few months.

So your friend basically gave you a free financial audit over some cheese?
