My $4 rice cooker from a church thrift store has been feeding me for 3 weeks straight
I know this sounds like a stretch but hear me out. Three weeks ago I was at a church thrift store in Akron and saw this old rice cooker sitting on a shelf for $4 with a piece of tape that said works. I bought it mostly as a joke because I was tired of burning rice on the stove and wasting a whole bag every time I tried to cook it. The first night I used it I threw in a cup of rice, two cups of water, and a can of diced tomatoes I got for 89 cents, and it came out perfect with zero effort. Since then I have been making rice bowls with whatever cheap stuff I have around, like frozen veggies, eggs, and a little soy sauce, and I am honestly eating better than when I was spending $12 a meal on takeout. Last night I made a big batch with a $3 bag of dried black beans I soaked overnight and it fed me lunch and dinner today. I even did the math and I think I have spent maybe $18 on food this whole week, which is less than one delivery order. Has anyone else found a cheap kitchen gadget that ended up being way more useful than expected?
