Meal prepping on Sunday saves me more than just time

I always thought meal prepping was just for people who liked fancy containers and Instagram photos, but then I heard a guy at the grocery store say he saved $40 a week by cooking all his lunches on Sunday. He said he used to buy takeout every day at work and now he spends that cash on his kid's soccer fees instead. Has anyone else noticed a bigger dent in their wallet from skipping the prep than they expected?

Goodness, forty dollars a week sounds like a lot for just lunches. But then again, I figure those five dollar sandwiches and sodas add up faster than you think, especially if you're buying them every single workday. That's a pretty impressive chunk of change to put back in your pocket every week.
