Just realized my $4 bag of frozen mixed veggies beat my $30 farmers market haul for soup
I make soup every Sunday and decided to test two batches side by side. Batch one used fresh carrots, celery and onions from the market that ran me $30 total at the St. Paul farmers market. Batch two used a $4 bag of frozen mixed veggies from Aldi and a leftover onion. The frozen one tasted just as good, maybe better, and I didn't spend 45 minutes chopping. Batch one also went bad by Wednesday while the frozen batch lasted until Friday. Has anyone else switched to frozen for soup and never looked back?
frozen veg is such a cheat code for soup, I stopped buying fresh celery weeks ago cause it just turns to mush in my fridge anyway. the chopping time alone is worth it, I can dump a bag in the pot and go do literally anything else.
Wait, you stopped buying fresh celery entirely? That's wild to me because I always thought frozen celery turns into straight water once it hits the pot. Doesn't it just fall apart into nothing when it thaws? I get the time saving thing but I feel like you lose all the crunch and texture. Maybe that doesn't matter for soup though since everything gets soft anyway. Do you notice a difference in taste or is it pretty much the same?
