Just realized my $2 chicken thighs took 4 hours to cook because of one dumb mistake
Last week I bought a 10 lb bag of chicken thighs for $7.99 at the Save A Lot on 5th Street, thinking I'd meal prep for the whole week. I threw them in the slow cooker on high with some salsa and walked away, but 3 hours later they were still raw in the middle. Turns out I had unplugged the cooker earlier to use the outlet for my phone charger and forgot to plug it back in. I ended up baking them at 400 degrees for another hour, and they were dry but edible. I wasted half a day and almost ordered a $25 pizza out of frustration. Has anyone else done something this dumb with a cheap cut of meat, or am I the only one who forgets basic stuff like this?
Check the outlet itself too, not just the plug. Half the outlets in my kitchen are wired to a light switch on the wall, so the switch gets bumped and the whole counter dies without me touching the cord. Took me two ruined pots of beans before I figured that one out.
