Just realized I was overspending on chicken breasts for years
I finally sat down and did the math last week on my grocery receipts from the past 6 months. Turns out I was paying like $4.50 a pound for boneless skinless chicken breasts at my local Safeway in Phoenix. Switched to buying whole chickens for $1.29 a pound and breaking them down myself. It takes me maybe 10 extra minutes but I'm saving roughly $15 a week on protein alone. Plus I get bones for stock which I used to buy for $3 a carton. Has anyone else made the switch to whole chickens and found it way easier than they thought?

My buddy tried that and ended up with chicken juice all over his ceiling fan.

You mentioned it taking "maybe 10 extra minutes" and that's been my experience too (actually maybe a tad more like 15 for me the first few times). I picked up a cheap kitchen shears at Walmart for like 8 bucks and that cut my whole chicken breakdown time in half, plus the bones for stock is a game changer. Made some chicken soup last weekend from scratch and it was way better than anything from a carton, honestly surprised myself.
