I was a dried bean hater until my electric bill forced my hand

For years I only bought canned beans because they were fast and I thought dried ones took too much planning. But last March my power bill jumped $40 and I started looking at every penny. My neighbor Deb told me she soaks a whole bag of pintos overnight once a week and cooks them for Sunday meal prep. I finally tried it with a $1.50 bag of black beans from the discount grocer. After three rounds I got the timing down: soak 8 hours, simmer for 90 minutes, and they taste way better than canned. Plus I save about $3 per meal since that bag makes enough for 4 dinners. Has anyone else switched to dried beans and found a method that saves both money and sanity?

Deb honestly changed my whole bean game and now I'm that person who brings her own pintos to potlucks.

OMG that's totally me now too lol. I used to just grab whatever can was on sale but Deb's method completely ruined me for store bought beans forever.
