Heard someone say canned beans are just as good as dried and I had to speak up

Was standing in line at the grocery store yesterday and this lady told her friend she saves money by using canned beans instead of dried. I almost turned around. I get that canned beans are convenient but they cost about three times more per pound. A one pound bag of dried pintos runs me about $1.50 here in Phoenix and makes enough for four meals. Canned beans will run you close to a dollar per can and you get half the amount. Plus dried beans taste better and you control the salt. Has anyone else done the math on this and switched back?

Oh my goodness, you are so right! I finally made the switch last year and I can't believe I ever used canned beans. The flavor difference alone is worth it, not to mention how much money I saved.

The money saving part is real but it's not actually cheaper if you factor in your time and the gas to cook them. Dried beans take hours to soften unless you have a pressure cooker which most people don't. And if you forget to soak them overnight you're stuck waiting all day. Plus canned beans are already cooked so you're paying for that convenience not just the bean itself. Not saying dried aren't better for flavor but the cost argument gets a little overblown when you break it down.
