Frozen veggies beat fresh ones for budget cooking every time

I used to be one of those people who thought fresh broccoli was the only way to go. Then I did a side by side comparison last month - fresh cost me $3.49 for one head that went bad in 4 days, and frozen was $1.89 for a bag that lasted 3 weeks. The frozen actually tasted better in my stir fry because it didn't get mushy. Has anyone else ditched fresh produce for budget meals and found it works better?

One angle I don't see people mention is that frozen veggies are often picked and frozen at peak ripeness, so they can actually have more nutrients than the "fresh" stuff that's been sitting in a truck for days. That's a big deal when you're trying to eat well on a budget. Kinda makes you wonder why we pay extra for the fancy fresh stuff that might be less good for you anyway.

Oh wait I gotta push back on something here. The whole "frozen veggies have more nutrients" thing is kinda true but it's way more complicated than people make it sound. Like yeah freezing locks in vitamins right when they're picked but that's mostly for vitamin C and B vitamins which are fragile and degrade fast. Stuff like vitamin A, fiber, and minerals don't really care if they're frozen or fresh. So you're not getting some supercharged nutrition bomb, you're just not losing as much of the delicate stuff. Which is still a win for budget eating don't get me wrong. But I see people act like frozen broccoli is some kind of miracle food when really it's just a solid practical choice that doesn't taste as good as fresh.
