Almost burned my chili because I trusted cheap canned beans
I stocked up on store brand kidney beans last month to save like 80 cents per can. But apparently some batches have way more starch and they threw off my cooking time by a solid 45 minutes. Got distracted waiting and nearly had a black mess on my stove top. Anyone else had canned goods act completely different than the name brand ones?

Burned a whole batch of chili myself once cause the cheapo brand beans were way too mushy.

Same exact thing happened to me with a generic brand of black beans last month. The texture was totally off, way too soft and falling apart before I even got the chili seasoned right. Ended up using them anyway because I was too lazy to start over, but the whole pot had this weird pasty consistency. Learned my lesson, stick with the usual brands even if it costs a buck more.

Is it just me or does this pattern show up everywhere now? It's like the cheap version always cuts corners somewhere you don't notice until it's too late. Same thing happened with off-brand trash bags I bought, they ripped on me every single time I took the bin out. Or that bargain brand coffee creamer that tasted like slightly sweetened water weirdness. You think you're being smart saving a dollar, but you're really just paying for a worse experience and more frustration. Hope the chili turned out okay in the end though lol.
