A friend's $5 meal plan made me ditch my whole grocery list

My buddy Craig came over last Tuesday and saw me staring at my fridge like it was a puzzle. He laughed and said he feeds himself for under $30 a week by just picking one protein on sale and building everything around it. I always bought a bunch of random stuff that went bad. So I tried his trick with chicken thighs, $1.89 a pound, and made 4 different meals: stir fry, soup, baked with potatoes, shredded for tacos. Lasted 6 days, maybe spent $22 total. Has anyone else tried the one-protein plan? I still crave variety but my wallet doesn't miss the old way.

Craig's got a system that works until chicken prices spike or you get sick of eating the same bird six ways by Wednesday. I tried it with pork loin once and by day four I was making "taco soup" just to feel something. Variety is overrated when your budget's a challenge, I get it, but boredom is why my freezer has three sad bags of frozen veggies I'll never touch.
