Wig styling took me 3 whole weekends to figure out, why did nobody warn me?

I spent forever trying to get a $12 Halloween wig to look like the character's spiky anime hair and finally learned you need to use a mix of hairspray and a flat iron on low heat, so has anyone else wasted a ton of time on wig work before discovering the obvious trick?

The flat iron trick is the real game changer, but the wig cap underneath matters just as much for keeping everything flat and secure. After I figured that out, my styling actually stayed put for more than an hour at a convention. Once you get those two basics down, everything else like teasing and trimming feels way less overwhelming.
