Why thrifted fabric beats cheap online fabric every time for cosplay
I tried ordering $8 a yard polyester satin from Amazon for my Sailor Moon cosplay and it looked so cheap, shiny plastic. Then I hit up a Goodwill in Tampa and scored 3 yards of real dupioni silk for $12 total. The drape and texture were night and day, plus the silk sewed up way cleaner. My final costume cost under $25 and won me a small prize at a local con. Has anyone else had better luck thrifting materials versus buying new budget stuff?

Man I learned this lesson the hard way too. Bought some cheap satin from Joann for my Starfire cosplay and it looked like I was wearing a trash bag. Found a 4 yard remnant of this awesome deep purple matte crepe at a thrift store for like 8 bucks and it draped like a dream. Thrifting is the real secret to cheap cosplay that actually looks good.
