Thrift store suit jacket saved me $50 on a Blade Runner coat
I was planning a Deckard cosplay for a con next month and kept looking at those online replicas. Cheapest one I saw was $80 plus shipping. Then I walked into a Goodwill in Portland last Saturday and found a perfectly beat-up brown tweed suit jacket for $12. Spent another $4 on some brown fabric paint to weather the collar and cuffs. The whole thing took maybe an hour and looks way more authentic than a shiny costume coat. The tag inside says it's from the 80s which is even funnier. Anyone else had luck finding cosplay bases at thrift stores instead of buying new stuff?

Have you always been a thrift store skeptic like I was? I used to think cosplay had to be all brand new pieces, but then I found an old leather jacket at a garage sale that worked perfectly for my Fallout character. It totally changed my mind about hunting for bases rather than buying replicas.

Read somewhere that thrift stores are basically Hollywood's secret weapon for costume departments. Funny how we think we're "roughing it" by digging through racks when the pros have been doing it for decades.
