Switched from store-bought worbla to craft foam for my armor build and honestly I should have done it sooner
I was dead set on using real worbla for my Mandalorian chest plate because everyone online says it's the 'proper' way. But I'm on a tight budget so I grabbed a $6 sheet of craft foam from Michaels instead just to test it. After 3 tries using a heat gun and some plasti-dip, the foam looked just as good as my friend's worbla build and cost me like a tenth of the price. Has anyone else had better luck with cheap materials than the expensive stuff they swore by?

The whole "you gotta use the expensive stuff" thing is everywhere. I've noticed this pattern where people swear the top tier product is the only way to get good results, but half the time it's just brand hype. Like, yeah real worbla has its perks but for something that's gonna get banged up at a con and sit on a shelf? Foam works fine. It's the same with tools or even cooking gear - a lot of that premium price is just marketing. You sand it, seal it right, and nobody can tell the difference from three feet away. Good on you for testing it yourself instead of just buying into the hype.
