Spent $40 on a cheap rotary tool for armor detailing and it completely changed my finishing game.

I was hand-filing some EVA foam for a Mandalorian helmet for ages, but this thing smoothed and shaped everything in an afternoon, so what's your best sub-$50 tool buy?

Got a similar tool but it was a bit more, like 55 bucks. Still counts as a game changer for sanding curves though. Honestly any rotary tool in that range is a solid buy.

Yeah, that "game changer for sanding curves" part is so true. I read a whole forum thread where people argued about sanding blocks versus these rotary tools for rounded edges. The general take was that once you go rotary for curves, you never go back because it just follows the shape without you fighting it. The time saved on just one project makes the cost worth it, even at fifty bucks. It's one of those things you don't realize you need until you try it.

Totally agree with you both, and @angelacooper is right about the price range not mattering too much. I fought with a sanding block on a chair leg for what felt like hours before caving and getting a rotary tool. The difference is honestly night and day, like you stop working against the wood and start working with it. It's one of those tools that just makes the whole process feel less like a chore.
