Rant: The guy at Goodwill who told me my cardboard armor was 'too realistic'
I spent 40 hours on a Halo Spartan suit from pizza boxes and duct tape, and some random dude at a thrift store in Austin said it looked like I just pulled it from a dumpster. What budget cosplay gatekeeping moment made you want to scream?

You know, I once got yelled at for wearing a tinfoil hat to a Renaissance fair.

My buddy once spent a whole weekend building a cardboard R2-D2 from old moving boxes and he took it to a comic convention. This guy walked up and said it looked like a recycling bin with wheels. Like okay, sorry my droid hasn't hit its midlife crisis and bought a shiny new paint job yet. I told my buddy at least his R2 can hold his snacks, which is more than I can say for most cosplay.

40 hours on a pizza box Spartan suit is dedication, not something to get roasted for. The guy was probably just jealous his dumpster diving game isn't that creative. Cardboard armor is basically the highest form of recycling anyway, so if anything he should have been impressed. Next time tell him your suit has more structural integrity than his personality.
I once had a lady at a craft fair tell me my duct tape wallet looked "too homemade" and I was like, yeah, that's because a human made it in their house, what's your point.
