My friend told me to skip the craft foam for armor and use a floor mat from Harbor Freight

I thought it was a dumb idea, but the $8 mat I got there was way thicker and easier to shape than the thin sheets I was buying. It held up all day at Phoenix Comic Fest without cracking. Anyone else have a go-to hardware store item for builds?

Ever try using a yoga mat for smaller detail pieces? I cut up an old one for bracers and it has a nice flexible finish. That floor mat trick is a total game changer for bigger armor sections.

What thickness yoga mat works best for that? I tried a thinner travel mat once, but it didn't hold shape for a pauldron piece at all.
