My first foam Daedric helm looked awful, here's the 3 step fix

Picked up a $12 EVA foam sheet set from a craft store near Austin and my first attempt at a Daedric helm from Skyrim came out lopsided with seams everywhere. After watching a few tutorials I realized the trick was heating the foam with a heat gun for shaping and using contact cement instead of hot glue, plus sealing it with plasti dip before painting. Anyone else have a cheap material that just needed the right technique to look con-ready?

Heat gun changed everything for me too. That contact cement is the real secret though. Hot glue just melts and shifts while it cools. Plasti dip saved my first pauldron from looking like a dollar store toy. Cheap materials are fine if you put the work in.
