I spent $80 on a 'perfect' wig for a character and it was a total waste, should I have just styled a cheap one?

Yeah, because if you mess it up, at least you're only out like twenty bucks. It's the perfect warm-up for the expensive one.

Oh man, this is way too real. My buddy decided to try that hot iron technique on a cheap beater first, and let me tell you, it went about as well as you'd expect. He managed to melt half the sole and glue some random fabric scrap to the bottom. But hey, he only lost $15 and learned what not to do. The next time he tried it on his good boots, they came out perfect.
