DAE think hot glue is fine for 90% of budget builds? A guy at Retropalooza tore into me for it
At Retropalooza in Arlington back in April, a guy in a full foam armor suit asked how I attached my chest plate and I told him hot glue and zip ties. He laughed and said it would fall apart by day two and that real cosplayers use contact cement and rivets. Well, my $14 build wore through 11 hours on the con floor plus a parking lot photo shoot and nothing popped loose, while his elbow seam split while he was waiting in line for a photo. I get why people push the fancy stuff, but telling new folks they need $60 in supplies before their first costume just scares them off. My take is glue right, rough up the surface, and add a backup tie at the stress points and you are fine. Has anyone else gotten grief for going cheap on adhesive at a con, and did your build actually hold up?
