Vent: Stopped by a brokerage office in Phoenix and the wait times were insane

I went to a local brokerage office in Phoenix last Thursday to ask about their fees for a small account. They told me to wait 20 minutes, but I sat there for almost an hour before anyone talked to me. The guy at the desk just shrugged and said "busy day," but there were only two other people there. Has anyone else had a broker's office waste your time like that?

That "busy day" excuse is total crap. I had the same thing happen at a brokerage in Scottsdale, sat there for 45 minutes with only three other people in the lobby. The receptionist kept saying someone would be right with me but never came back. Finally walked out, never went back. These places act like they're doing you a favor by taking your money.

Call them ahead next time and ask for a specific person. Bigger shops in Phoenix have walk-in advisors who are basically interns. I found that dropping by right when they open at 9am cuts the wait to almost nothing. If they give you the runaround again, try one of the smaller independent shops near Camelback instead.
