Showerthought: I finally tried a broker's 'demo account' for real

For years I'd just open a demo, click around for five minutes, and then fund my real account. Last month, I forced myself to trade the demo on TradingView for a full two weeks like it was my own money, tracking every move. I lost 22% of the fake balance. The platform was fine, but I learned my own strategy was the problem, not the broker's tools. Has anyone else actually stuck with a demo long enough to learn something embarrassing about themselves?

losing 22% of fake money in two weeks is barely a data point. thats like playing poker with matchsticks and being shocked you made bad calls. you probably also stare at charts too much and overtrade, which is what everyone does in demo land because it doesnt hurt enough. real money changes the whole game.

Learned my own strategy was the problem" hits way too close to home.
